MY VISION FOR BOX OF SOUNDS STUDIOS

Since the age of 15 I found the wonderful and immersive world of music after picking up a guitar.

The whole reason behind my venture wasn’t the fact I was brought up in a musical family or it was the new big thing to do, but going to a new school where a-lot of the students in my tutor group were musicians, and all my friends went to different schools, so felt like a bit of a outcast.

Within a couple of weeks of having a guitar I joined a band and the idea behind this was just jump in the deep end and it’s was the case of sink or swim…..

And it made you practice lots too.

So where is this going about my music facility Box Of Sounds over in Hurst, Wokingham, you may ask?

Well, I need to give a little more on my history (as much as I hate talking about myself) to come to point where my thinking and point is at present.

Anyway, back to the story……….

After starting playing in a school band, we were lucky enough to have the use of a building merchants warehouse locally, as our singers father worked there, and out of hours we took over.

Of course we had to rely on parents, to help transport gear like cheap amps, drum kit, PA systems, old four track cassette recorders to record our playing through cheap Argos Realistic microphones, to the place and then have mum and dad taxi service back.

We did also use local rehearsal rooms, and after visiting and using them found that most were poorly maintained, amps that looked like they had been through major wars and could tell a few stories, had emotional and working problems, drum kits held together with gaffer tape and PA systems unusable and shouting was probably louder….

Most gear was cheap and would break or not be available on return visits.

That’s not going into the carpets, and smell of stale alcohol and cigarettes and damp within the air.

So since then I always believed it was better to buy good gear and stuff musicians would want to use or would buy, than have cheap, short working life equipment that probably would need replacing within 6 months of use as cost to fix outweighed the fixing.

So, Box Of Sound Studios, I’ve brought in Marshall, Laney and Fender valve amps and included them in the room rental.

Damn got to go, forgot somewhere I’ve got to be……

As they say…to be continued, watch this space.
